The Texas Rangers waited 62 seasons for a World Series. When it came in 2023, it arrived the way the franchise had always imagined it would - on the strength of a lineup that never let an at-bat go to waste and a bullpen that closed the door in five games against Arizona.
1961: An Expansion Team in Washington
The franchise entered the American League in 1961 as the second incarnation of the Washington Senators, taking over the roster spot vacated when the original Senators moved to Minnesota. The early years were lean, and by the end of the decade ownership was looking south.
1972: Baseball Comes to Arlington
The club relocated to Arlington, Texas in 1972 and became the Texas Rangers, named for the state law enforcement agency. The blue caps, the white home whites and the Lone Star identity arrived with the move, and they have been the club's signature ever since. Globe Life Field, the current retractable-roof home, opened in 2020.
The Names That Built It
Nolan Ryan is the strikeout standard in Texas - the Rangers retired #34, and he went into Cooperstown wearing the blue and white. Ivan Rodriguez caught his way to the Hall of Fame behind the plate. Adrian Beltre played 2011-2018 in Arlington and joined the Hall of Fame in 2024, and his #29 is the standard every Rangers third baseman is measured against.
2023: The Title
Texas beat Arizona in five games to win the first World Series in franchise history, going undefeated on the road through the postseason. It was the payoff for five decades of near-misses, and it permanently changed what the Rangers look means to the people watching in Arlington.
2026: Right Back in the Fight
The Rangers are in the middle of the AL West race as the 2026 regular season closes out. Marcus Semien still anchors second base and sets the table at the top of the order, and the same blue-and-white look that won in 2023 is on the field every night.
